Hands down best chicken and waffles I ever had, best shrimp and grits I ever had. Tastes like homemade, made from scratch, heavenly goodness. The service was on point! Our server Brittany made sure we got acquainted with the menu and gave suggestions. The calypso sauce is everything you need on a chicken and waffle. The mac and cheese is like your mama’s Thanksgiving dinner and love. We’ll be coming back again and again!

A Friendly Visit to Dames Chicken and Waffles
I had been eagerly anticipating my first visit to Dames Chicken and Waffles, so I arrived bright and early on a Sunday morning at 9:45 am, only to realize that they don't open until 10 am – my bad for not double-checking the hours beforehand! But arriving early turned out to be a blessing, as a small line had already formed outside, and more folks were joining in anticipation of a delicious breakfast.
Once seated, I ordered a glass of water, coffee, and orange juice. However, my excitement dipped momentarily when I noticed some food crumbs in my water. Nonetheless, I decided to give the menu a good look, settling on a waffle with maple pecan-infused butter and the American breakfast.
The waffle, accompanied by its unique buttery topping, was decent, but not quite the flavor explosion I had hoped for. The American breakfast, unfortunately, didn't quite hit the mark either – the turkey bacon was a tad bland, and the sausage patties seemed a bit overdone. But hey, the buttery grits were surprisingly tasty!
To my disappointment, the coffee arrived on the colder side and lacked the robust flavor I was expecting. Despite these minor setbacks, when the bill arrived, I couldn't help but feel it was a tad steep for the overall dining experience.
In the end, while my visit to Dames Chicken and Waffles didn't entirely live up to my expectations, I left with a hopeful outlook. I'm confident that with a bit of attention to cleanliness and perhaps some tweaks to the menu, this charming spot has the potential to provide an even more delightful dining experience for its future guests.

Food: There are so many variations to the long-time favorite of chicken and waffles.
You can have chicken legs, wings, cutlets, or vegan chicken. For the 🧇 waffles mixes, you can have: the original, gingerbread, sweet potatoes, or vegan waffles.
The American gives you eggs, grits, 2 turkey bacon stripes, and 2 turkey sausages. The waffle tops it off.
The shrimp and grits was so flavorful and filling. The melody of spices and seasonings marry well.
The mean green are MEAN with flavors.
The shmears and drizzle: OMG!!! Please save some calories. Don't cut yourself taste buds short.
The service was top tier!!! Desmond was timely, friendly, and knowledgeable of the menus intricacies!!!
There's outdoor seating and tons of parking.
I can't wait to go back!!!

This is one of North Carolina’s best restaurants. Delicious and fresh. Great environment and wonderful service staff at all locations. I’ve been eating here for years and look forward to more delicious meals. Grateful for this place and all the work that the ownership team have put into it for 15+ years!

The best chicken & waffles I’ve ever had, no cap! I ordered the Carolina Cockere and it was delicious paired with the homemade vanilla almond butter and hot sauce. The sides were incredible, we ordered cheesy Mac, collard greens, and squash. Everything here is delicious, you can’t go wrong ordering anything.
